The homes

The Crescents holds a lot of the city's older character housing: craftsman-style homes on tree-lined streets. Lots are usually smaller than in the newer suburbs. Plenty of houses have been updated over the years, and some still have original kitchens and older systems.

Walkable to almost everything

From most streets you can walk downtown and to parks like Carrie Jane Gray and Cottonwood Island. The University Hospital of Northern BC is close, and Parkwood Place and Pine Centre Mall are a few minutes away by car.

That's why downsizers like it. The Crescents is walkable in much the same way as Connaught, usually at slightly lower prices.

Schools

Harwin Elementary and St. Mary's are nearby, and the neighbourhood sits close to both Duchess Park Secondary and Prince George Secondary.

What to check

A 1970s or older home here may need a furnace, roof or plumbing work within the first few years. A furnace that quits in a Prince George January is a real problem, so have those systems inspected and put money aside for them. Ask what was updated in a renovated character home and when, because older wiring and plumbing can sit behind new drywall.

For budgeting, Jason plans on $300 to $500 a month for upkeep on an older property. Most new owners in the Crescents are better off assuming a similar number than hoping for a quiet first year.

Who buys here

Buyers who want character over new construction and will trade lot size for location. Downsizers who want to walk to things. People moving from bigger cities who want an established neighbourhood close to the core.
