About VLA
The VLA — short for Veterans Land Area — is a post-WWII neighbourhood built under the federal Veterans' Land Act to house returning servicemen. Phase One broke ground in Prince George in June 1953, and many of the original bungalows along Pine Street are still standing — some renovated, some waiting for the next owner. It's one of the more affordable pockets in the city. Lots are standard-sized, the streets are quiet, and the housing stock attracts first-time buyers and investors in roughly equal measure. Downtown is a short drive north, Spruceland Shopping Centre handles day-to-day errands, and Two Rivers Gallery and the library are ten minutes away. If you're looking for entry-level in an established, tree-lined part of town with real Canadian post-war history attached to it, the VLA is worth a look.
