South Fort George is the original townsite of Prince George. Settled in 1909 at the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako, it was meant to be the region's commercial centre — until the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway chose the Lheidli T'enneh village as its station site instead, and that became downtown. South Fort George stayed its own municipality until it amalgamated with PG in 1976, and the area still carries that history. You'll find a handful of pre-WWI homes along Inlander Street, the 1910 South Fort George School House beside the Exploration Place, and the 65-acre Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park right on the waterfront. Housing is a mix of heritage homes, mid-century infill, and newer renovations. Buyers come here for the river frontage, the history, and the quiet — it's close to downtown without being in it.
